WINE INTRODUCTION EVENT

Start having fun!

Everybody has to start somewhere on their journey of wine enjoyment and exploration.

Many people can feel intimidated by the rarified atmosphere in some wine farm tasting rooms, and don’t want to be embarrassed by the “word cloud” of wine jargon being thrown at them, nor by their lack of knowledge. So how are they going to learn more?

Tailoring the evening to your needs, we’ll start your wine journey with you, guiding you through some of the wines and wine styles that are available.

CORPORATE LAUNCH / PARTY?

Make it memorable

Rather than wines poured into your guests’ glasses by roving waiters, why not let us bring a few wine producers along to your corporate event, and encourage your guests to informally sample their wines as they work the room?

You’ll be guaranteed good quality wines, and your event will be remembered for all the right reasons!

One quick email to Nick, and you’ve got the drinks covered!

PRIVATE EVENTS

At your home

In the comfort of your own home, we bring the wines to you. From the network we’ve grown in the industry, we can accommodate most, if not every need.

Whether it’s a selection of wines from one producer, a vertical tasting of several vintages, a horizontal tasting of one cultivar from several producers or regions, or an celebration of bubbles, we can create your ideal wine indulgence evening.

SPEED TASTING EVENING

yeah... exactly!

It happens just as you’d imagine it to!

As with speed dating (not that we have ever experienced speed dating, but we have researched the topic...), you have a certain length of time to experience each wine, before moving on to the next one until you’ve tried all the wines in the room.

Of course, the advantage is that you can take any number of wines home with you right away…

THEMED EVENINGS

Find your favourite

There are a number of themed evenings held at The Wine Hive in Paarl - last year we had artichoke festivals (learning to prepare and cook artichokes); a Tango evening (with live music and professional dancers); Meet The Legends evenings – in conversation with some of the best known names in wine, and "Women Inspired" – celebrating Women’s Month with presentations by female winemakers.

ITALIAN WINE EVENINGS

Learning fun

Italy has more than 350 recognised grape varietals, with more than 500 more grapes documented.

Guided by the inspirational Italian winemaker Michela Sfiligoi at The Wine Hive in Paarl, you will unravel the confusing tagliatelle of the Italian wine regions, cultivars and vinification processes, and enjoy the "bei vini italiani!"

“OENOSTHESIA”

- Music and Wine Pairing

This is where Nick comes into his own, with Music and Wine Pairing evenings.

Oenosthesia is the bodily sensation that is caused by stimulus from both hearing and taste, so it’s only natural that Nick offers a combination of his music and wine passions to create a music and wine pairing, using every one of your senses!

This isn’t “just another wine pairing gimmick,” indeed, music and wine pairings aren’t even innovative – there are a couple of South African farms who have been offering this at their tasting rooms for a number of years. But Nick will bring this to your door, in an immersive, stimulating and fun event.

In a food and wine pairing, your taste sensations can often be overwhelmed and confused when two separate flavours combine, so let’s cut it back to only the taste of the wine, and complement it with the messages your brain receives from another of the senses, your hearing.

There is no space for mixed messages – just interpretations of how YOU receive the tastes and the sounds.

Yes, like food and wine, it is purely subjective. But think for a minute, music expresses an emotion, and those emotional attributes are also often used to describe wines – for example: light, dark, smooth, lively, romantic, earthy, intense, subdued, delicate.

I believe it was American winemaker Clark Smith who once said, “Wine is Liquid Music.”

You have to try music and wine pairing!
